i have a oppertunity to buy a 99 scrambler for around 1100. the good it runs, the 4 wheel drive works. the bad is the bearings went out in the rearend and its in pieces in my garage. its a buddy that owes me some money. the key switch needs replaced and it has a bent tie rod. he has replacement plastic for it and it is a 400. what do you guys think should i just put it back together and let him sell it and give me my money or should i just take the deal. i would have 1200 in it with the rear end fixed. it runs strong but it has had a hard life.

I'd keep it. If it all works then patch it up and ride. It's worth between 1800- 2400 by the book. I had one with over 20,000 miles on it. Not sure how many more than that cause the speedo quit and I ain't replacing it. I've had some repairs to do to it but overall its been a great ride. And mine has had a hard life too.

This is so funny as i just picked up my 2000 500 scrambler last week and my rear end is all apart in my garage aswell. He put the bearing carrier in without a few parts and it came apart. BUY a billet carrier off of ebay. I got a RAD Tappered bearing carrier for $159. VERY AWESOME piece. And remember don't forget the axle spacer and O-ring on the rotor side. Also don't misplace the caliper bushing on the swingarm that goes into the caliper bracket.
I paid $1400 for mine and all that is wrong with it is the carrier. But it is not 4x4.

i am goig to replace the bearings, orings and seals. the houseing is a little beat up on the end with the sprocket since thier was no bearing there when i tore it down. i got the bearings, races, seals, and o-rings from a bearing place all for 31 dollars. i have to go to the dealer and get 2 of the big nuts that tighten on the axle and the hub the sprocket was on, it got ate up pretty bad. there is a picture on the quad on my page if you want to check it out and tell what you think.
