Default 2004 Trailblazer starter problem

Tim,

I hate to admit it, but I have not yet had the time to mess with it. I actually plan on getting a 10mm offset wrench, I'm assuming the "s" shaped style, to try and get the starter bolt out without having to take off the clutch.

Need special puller bolt to get drive clutch off. You will ruin clutch if you use wheel puller. Starter will come off much easier after clutches are off. Offset wrench if open end might work but will be a real pain. Recoil starter stays on the engine cover. Good Luck

It seems to me the ONLY way to get the starter off is to remove the clutch. I hate like Hell to have to take it to the shop just to take off the clutch. Any idea's?

You can build a puller bolt but I can't remember what size. Shop I used to work for would not buy tools and I got tired of borrowing so I built one. They wouldn't let me take it when I left. If I can get some measurements I will post them on here tomorrow.

You need a 3/4 inch bolt, 16 threads per inch, approx. 10" long. First 3 to 31/2 inches need to be turned down to 5/8" diameter, then you need about 3 to 4 inches of threads. When I made mine I could not find a bolt long enough so I used two bolts and cut head off one and welded together. Wish I could put up a drawing so it would be clearer. Good Luck, TORK.

Default Starting problem with 03 trailblazer 400

I just had my starter replaced along with the starter drive around 11/11/2011 and worked fine for a while. I have drove through some water but not very high and still it worked fine. Now, it clicks sometimes or won't catch so I decided to get a new battery and it spins fasts and catches it. Other times my battery goes dead after running the lights so I took the battery back and got a new one. Then it would work fine again but would make a really funny noise when cranking over. It has its good days and its bad days. What might be the problem? The starter, solenoid, battery, stator? Thanks guys.

Welcome to the forum! First off start with a good fully charged battery. Check how much voltage is going back to the starter while idling, should be around 14-14.5 volts. IF shows less or just battery voltage could be a bad regulator/rectifier causing problems on battery going down.. If you've been in water might be time to pull the recoil cover and clean and grease up the starter gear shaft. Could be the noise you're hearing. If it starts with a fresh battery then the solenoid can be ruled out as a problem. OPT

Thank you for the information I really appreciate it. Now I need to know where the rectifier/regulator is located?
