polaris 500 scrambler rebuild need HELP
#1
anyone know where i can get this socket to remove the cylinder head? they dont have the standard hex head bolts but instead have a torx like bolt with 12 star shape and it measured about 15.6mm or .6in on my micrometer..
anyone know where to get this..? would home depot carry it or is it a special polaris bolt/socket deal.?
Damn manufacturers always make it difficult on us.

heres a picture i took
and is the clutch drive belt supposed to have that much slack in it?
I have never worked on a four stroke with a clutch so i have no idea what it should look like.
i dont have any torx or 12 pt tools
i am going to rebuild this quad that overheated... hopefully its just the top end.

i have never been in one before so i can't give you much help, but the bolt looks like it would fit one the sockets i got when i bought my tool kit from sears. so i say you should be able to buy the star sockets. the belt looks good to me too.

thanks.. i will try that.
I am guessing that the clutch will pull the belt tighter when it revs up? Damn that belt is on there loose..
Are they hard to change? Do i need a special puller? I have a good impact that i could get that rear bolt off to remove the rear pulley. Sould it come right off after that?
The belt has a few tiny cracks in it.. figured i would change it while its apart..

You can replace the belt without the removing the clutches. But yes, the rear clutch usually comes off without a puller. The front clutch removal requires a special tool from polaris that threads into the same hole that the bolt is in to hold it in place. It threads into the clutch and pushes against the crank to pull the front clutch off
