Yes they help over stock because they are letting more air flow and more air flo=more POWER but u aslo have to rejet if u are running a carb the EFI models should adjust to them

With that more air flow comes the more expense of dirt/grit in the engine.

the K&N filter will help the bike breath a little easier and you obviously don't have to buy any more filters, but you will not notice any power gains. The biggest gain i got was with the new exhaust, filters up here in Alberta are around $60

k&n allows more dust and dirt to go in the engine. i dont beleave you would gain much or any power w/ just a kn w/out a pipe to go w/ it. more air in and not letting more exhaust out (w/out a pipe) is kinda of useless.

K&N filters definately help over stock filters. The power gains you get will not be arm streatching, but on most machines, a little goes a long ways. I have ran my kfx with a K&N filter in very dusty conditions as well as sand dunes and have NEVER found any dust or sand inside the filter. The air box can have a layer of sand inside and when I take out the filter out for cleaning, the box under the filter looks bandnew. With a K&N you never have to buy another flimsy foam filter and to clean you simply spray on a cleaning solution and rinse with water. Let the filter air dry and spray on some K&N oil. Done. After running a K&N filter, I wouldn't run anything else.

IMO a K&N is a very good filter but you need to run a prefilter and carry a spare. But if you ride wet conditions a UNI filter is better because when you sink the quad the UNI can be wrung out and put back in.( then reoiled when you get to the truck)
