Default Several Questions

I just purchased a 2003 sportsman 500 HO with 700 miles. There seems to be a slight ticking that sounds like a lifter or valve tappet. Is this common? Should the valve clearance be adjusted at certain increments?

Thanks for your help!

Default Several Questions

When I first start the engine it is very quiet then about 30 seconds later I begin to hear this noise. If this is normal I will not worry about it, the engine starts up and runs real strong so there is not a performance issue. I just tend to be over zealous about my toys and since I am just re-entering this world of ATVs I am just that much more cautious.

Thanks for your help..

It's tha nature of the Fuji engines to tick. I had the valves adjusted on my 500 once at the first service and now it has close to 7000miles with no problems...

My Scrambler makes that noise at idle also. It's nothing to worry about.

Nb sportsman, tell me about the front spacers you have on your ATV. My sportsman 500 came with a County Plow and the front end seems to sag quite a bit with the plow in the up position. WOuld a simple fix be to add a spacer?

Thanks for your help..
