Default 500HO fuel problem

I just purchased a 04 500HO ATP with 22 miles and 13 hours. I haven't rode it much but it eat the fuel and smells gasy. About a tank of gas for 20 miles. I looked under the tank with plastic off and no leaks from tank or lines. Could this be a carb adjustment problem Air/fuel? It don't want to idle most of the time which I am going to adjust the throttle from other forums I have read. It seem to run great otherwise. I don't know much about polaris, from previous forums and I am new to site. Any info. would be great, thanks.

5 mpg? There's no way it would run if there was actually that much gas making it into the cylinder. It's leaking somehwere, I would say that it's pouring out of the carb overflow tube.

Mabey the choke is stuck on. The choke is an enrichment jet on the side of the carb with a cable going to it. I would pull that out and clean it up and put it back together and see if that helps. When you push the choke back in does it feel like it goes all the way back in or is there a little resistance.?

your plug should be solid back and wet if you are only getting that milage. if the float is not set right it would be flooding as well. i would pull the carb and clean it real good and inspect it. start it up and look at the carb area to see if its leaking gas anywhere like the overflow lines.
