Hey folks, new poster here. I've decided on the purchase of a Trail Boss 325. One of the two dealers I contacted has a used '00 for $2700. Neither dealer will budge on the $3699 list for a new '01. From the research I've done, the major differences between the two are as follows:

SS brake lines
redesigned PVT cover and backing plate
improved brake fluid resevoir
one-handed parking brake operation
more durable pads and rotors
redesigned fuel tank cap
larger diameter steering post with sealed lower bearing

So, my question is, are these improvements worth the extra $1000? I'm thinking that $1000 would buy a lot of replacement parts (if actually needed).

Also, being a used machine, what concerns should I have? I'm new to the ATV scene, so I'm not familair with what kind of abuse can be heaped on one of these things, and still go unnoticed (i.e. engine, trans). I was told the owner traded it for a 90cc model for his kid.

Any opinions would certainly be appreciated. Thanks!!

I would buy the used one if brakes look like they are in good condition and that the chain is not ajusted to it`s end.One more thing check the oil lines make sure they are the updated version.

Just from My reading alot of the 325 bosses blew oil lines, I would be suspicious of a used machine if it had new oil lines. My sons never blew a hose but have read of quite a few people losing motors because of this. If you can get some guarentee that this motor is not a grenade then go for it. Just my opinion not looking for a fight.

You are right, $1000 will buy a lot of parts. Here is how I see it:

1. $35 for a replacement steering stem bushing from HPD. Permanent fix.

2. $35 for a set of solid brass brake pads for the rear from Box Brakes (www.boxbrake.com). Definite improvement over stock pads.

3. $70 for the sets of sintered metal brake pads for the fronts. I think box brakes is also working on a set of solid brass pads for the fronts.

As for the oil lines, ask the dealer if the oil lines have been replaced as per ATV service bulletin 0003. If not, Polaris will replace these for free. My tboss is being replaced as I type.

The other things I would look for are the obvious. Check the tires for excessive wear. Check the chain and sprocket for signs of excessive wear or scarring. Look for any bent parts, especially in the steering area. If no excessive damage or wear is noted, I would get the 2000 and save the money for riding clothes

I live in Indiana, but a free add paper we get has an ad for a dealer in IL not far from Tera Haute, IN. He is advertising Trail Bosses for $3299. Everyone around here is selling them for $3500. I will try to check on that dealer, I was thinking it was either Owen's Motorsports or Schumacher Performance. Actually I think both are in IL. I am very pleased with my T Boss. BK
