Default Help few questions

I have a 99 polaris scrambler500 4x4 HO. If i leave it sittin for about a week or two without startin it - it will not start. The only way i can get it started is to spray starter fluid in the carb. then its still a pain in the butt to get started. sometimes it back fires... after i get it runnin it runs fine other then when i turn it off it leaks gas out the bowl on the carb - what could this be? please any one with info please share

I just replaced float needle and seat it helped it but at the bottom of the bowl where the over flow hose is it leaks out of that not bad just when you rev it up... i dont know that this could be i have cleaned the carb Any one know where to start lookin?

are you shutting of your fuel while storing it? if so, it sounds like the carb is leaking out and draining the bowl. this will cause a problem while starting because theres no fuel in the bowl when you go to start it. hence using the starting fluid would compensate.

i have a few ideas...
-since you just replaced the needle and seat, check the manual and make sure that the floats and needle are properly adjusted.

- check the gasket beteween the bowl and carb body.

- make sure that the drain screw is tight, if not it will drain the bowl over time, a few weeks seems about right to leak it all out.

- make sure the main jet access bolt/plug is seated properly on the bottm of the bowl. theres an o ring on the inside of this bolt.

- fuel pump malfunctioning?

- fuel filter clogged?

hope this helps....

If it's got a new needle and seat then the float level is to high or the float has a hole in it , is the crankcase full of gas? This would explain the hard starting.
