500.
The EX in asthmatic, and 500 is belt driven (=more grip).

Unless it's long, and 400EX will beat on top speed.

sorry Zorro,

If the 500 Scram really beats it in acceleration, then it will realy beat it in any length of race. The 400EX's rev limiter has a peak at 65MPH. the Scram 500 2X4 will hit around 69MPH the 4X4 will hit arolund 67. so if the scram can get in front in acceleration, it will have no problem staying there.

not an insult or nothing, just letting you know.

The Scrambler will beat it saw it on a 500 foot grass drag race course. The 400EX is a way overblown machine as far as how fast it is. This was 400 and 500 4x4 Scramblers they all beat the 400ex's. and My riding friends 1996 400 Xpress also beat the 400EX's that was funny to see, all the EX's were shinny all cleaned up guys in race atire, Bud was in his jeans, work gloves on, Snowmobile helmet on, we had ridden that morning his machine was quite dirty.

Scrambler all the way. Modify the 400ex and it will get the upper hand on the Scram. Modified 500...??? not sure of result.

xepathfinder,
Its funny that you mention the 400ex being all polished up. The 400ex that I've ridden with a few times is the same way. Everytime we go out, his bike is perfectly clean, even to the point of Armour All on the tires! He asked if I ever washed mine, I told him I have done it once or twice, but usually I just hose it off and put'er in the garage till next time.

Are you serious?
I said that because that's what happens when me (banshee) and my buddy (400 scrambler prepped) race. I catch him on top speed (while he flies away on take off).
So, the 500 will win.

I have a 2000 scrambler 400 2x4 2stroke, clutch kit, vforce delta 2 reeds, reed spacer, hpd pipe, wisco piston and jug has been ported. Stock sprockets! I can beat a 400ex stock by about 5yrds. And a 400ex with after marker cdi beats me buy the same. Now theres a factor of rider ability, tune job, conditions, and rider weight. I believe the ratio is for every 12 pounds is 1 horse power. So if our bikes are the same and I out way you by 50lbs. your'll kick my butt. Same with a moded bike w/ a big man that weights 260 and stocker w/ a young kid that weights 110 - May be close. Just things I've learned over the years.
