Default 700 sputtering in mudholes

Took out the new quad today, and got it in the mud! It was missing a couple of times when in sorta deep stuff. When I say missing, it lost almost all power, and was sputtering pretty bad. I kicked it in neutral to try and clear it out, but it really didn't help. I brought it back down to just above idle for about 10 secs. and revved it again, now it had power. Put it in gear and crawled out of hole! This happened a couple of times in different mudholes. It only happened when a little burried, but not everytime. The first time when this happened and I got it out of the hole, I shut it down for a good looksy! The plugs were not wet/muddy, you could see the water line about 2-3 inches below the plugs(easy to tell on a brand new clean engine). The intake air box was bone dry, like I said, the spitting wasn't able to be cleared out as if water ingestion may be the issue. I also checked the oil, it was good and full! I wonder if this is a dielectric grease issue! Someone tell me where to put the grease other than the plug boots. I will do all the lights and stuff, but I want to know where the main electrical crap is, so I can attack that stuff first! It runs super on the trails. Never acted up once on the dry stuff! I need to get this resolved, I got a couple of jap quads that want a piece of this MV this weekend!

Could be steam from your motor. Your snorkle is right under the gas tank and steam can get trap in there and then it gets sucked in the snorkle causing you to run rich. Mine used to do that before I snorkled it. I put die-electric grease on my plug boots at the plugs and coil and then snorkled everything.

Then snorkled, it will be. How did you do the air box lid? Did you replace the bolted on snorkle with a blanking plate? Then, pop a hole in the side?

I just picked up two new Scramblers. On one of the units, I was experiancing the same problems as you. I found moisture was getting into the connection for the rev limiter. I dried it out and applied dielectric grease to the plug to solve the problem.

Yeah I put a plate over my factory hole and drilled a hole in the bottom and run the pipe from there. Heres some pics.

instigater, you should read the thread on 700 carb trouble, my 700 was doing the same thing you are describing and it was the carb boot, it had a crack in it and now there is no problems in the water or at low speeds. worth a try for you
