Default glacier plow

just had the 48 inch plow mounted on my 06 500 efi and i was wondering how high the blade should be off the ground my dealer had it set so the blade is about an inch off the ground when the skid plates are on the ground do most have the blade on the ground or do you have a bit of clearance and how much? now i cant wait tell it snows here, also had the polaris hand and thumb warmers installed they seem to be nice and warm. any help on the blade would be appreciated thanks.

Default glacier plow

It should depend on the surface you are plowing.....pavement or gravel.......I am looking at getting one also. Is it the Glacier or I here there is a Glacier II out now ..........what is the differance..........Also what is the cost here in Canada.....I live in Ontario......Thanks......have fun.......Oh..did you get the manual lift lever or are you using your winch....They are listed in the Polaris book at 359.99 CAN for the frame and 319.99 for the 60"blade...I guess that price is for all Canada.....Caper..........Does it have quick angle adjustments????

You can lower it if you want, It's an inch off the ground because on each side should be some sacrifice skid plates to prevent wearing out the blade on your plow. Mine is about 3/4 inch i think cuz i'm plowing gravel roads. If I were doing cement I would prolly lower it even more or be tempted to take the skid plates off completley. I love my blade works great, but when you get stuck you get stuck, you'll see when the plow slides up too high and gets hung up. I hope this helps if not try to clear up your question and I'll try to help you out.

i paid $679 can for all 3 peices and then got 15% off that installed i have the 48 inch blade $189 the frame $359 and the quad bracket $129 .(my dealer will let me trade up to a bigger blade if i dont like the 48 inch but he said it works best for dirt and snow and it also fits attached to my quad on my quad trailer nicely) I think i have the glacier 1 and from what i understand the 1 is more heavy duty than the 2 but the 2 can be lifted higher and is only used on polaris quads i also use a winch to lift it it is so nice and easy i dont think i would go manual. I also believe you can use the springs to adjust the angle i will learn more once it snows here in saskatchewan. Anyway i plan on using it mainly on pavement and i am still wondering if anyone can help with how high the blade shoud be off the pavement (or not at all ) thanks.

When i get home I'll tell you what i paid for mine last year. And i'll see how high my blade is. The springs on the side are to set how stiff you want your plow. What i mean is if your plowing and you hit something solid the plow will collapse down ward to prevent you from coming to a complete abrupt stop. All the springs do is tighten it up so it doesn't collapse as easily

Ok my plow is set up for gravel is about a 1/2" off the ground. Like I said I would be very tempted to take the skid plates off for cement, cuz when you have a cement driveway you usually want all the snow off the cement. As for prices I bought my quad and my plow at the same time and got a bit of a deal. EZ plow kit frame $283.00 retail was $314.99 , plow kit mount plate generation 8 $92.00 reatail $99.95, and the 60" blade $225.00 retail $249.99. And my 2500lbs warn winch for $619.00 retail $689.99.

for plowing I take the stoppers off completely. more wear on blade but it gets closer to ground. Blades are cheap.

If you're plowing cement/asphalt you want the wear bar on the bottom of the blade right on the ground. The skids (behind the blade) should be set higher so they don't touch the ground at all. I set mine so they are higher than the bottom of the wear bar but 1/4" - 1/2" below the steel of the plow blade.

Once the skids start to hit the ground, its time to purchase a new set of wear bars. They act as a wear indicator and ensure I don't start to wear into the steel of the plow blade itself.

If you're plowing gravel surfaces, then you'll want the skids lower than the wear bar on the blade. So the skids hold the wear bar off the ground a good 1/2 - 3/4".
