500 X2 RPM?
#1
I was just wondering what other people are seeing for RPM on their 500 X2's or regular 500 EFI's? I have a stock X2 with the exception of 25" bighorns and I am seeing 6700 RPM on the top end, with the speedo at 60MPH. Can anyone tell me what they are running, and what I should be running. I seem to think that is up and out of the powerband, but not sure as this is my first quad. Thanks in advance.

Nice to see the quad is working well!
The numbers seems ok to me, but I haven't taken mine up that far yet - waiting to finish the break-in period.
How does it run at higher speeds? Any vibration or rumbles?
Did you find a cargo box?

My 05 ATP 500 HO no efi at 60 mph is usually at anywhere from 5800rpm to 6400rpm at the highest. My dealer told me not to have it rev that high (in the 6000's) because I burnt three belts in 100 hours (1000mi) of riding. He fed me some crap about the belt getting too stretched at high rpm's. He told me that I shouldn't drive top speed all the time because there not meant for it??? I've had dirt bikes and all of them have been pined at all times.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I guess I'm in the ball park? Ebel, no I haven't got a rear box yet, but I know the exact one you have and plan on getting one soon. To me the quad feels stable at speed, it does have a bit of a vibration (wobble) through the bars at about 40MPH but I think it is actually the tires and not the quad as it only does it at a certain speed, any slower or faster it is not there.

Humm, I must have a fast one.
A couple of months ago I was on a nicely graded dirt road heading back to the truck, a friend blew by me on his 700 Kingquad so I cranked up the 500 X2 and did not catch him, but the speedo said 68 MPH. (his said 71 MPH)
It seems to be pretty accurate, I donno.
Also, I weigh around 220.
I don't pay too much attention to RPMs; main thing is to stay in low range if you are going less than 15 MPH.
Also, if you break in a machine slow, and it will be slow. Todays machinery is precision stuff.
I had a Motorcycle dealer tell me the main reason they say go slow at first is to familiarize yourself with the machine.
