Is Polaris getting better??
#1
I have never owned a polaris atv but from what you guys say their quality has really improved over the years but why is it whenever I goto a quad dealer or I'm out ridin people always have bad things to say about polaris? That is why I'm skeptical on buying a scrambler for myself because my warrior is fairly reliable and I'm worried that if I switch I will spend all my time orderin parts and wrenching on the machine. But on the positive my brother owns a wolverine and he likes it alot and I enjoy ridin it but it is terribley underpowered so that is why I think the scrambler would be a good machine for me.I'm not sure on size yet, leaning towards the 400 4x4 but might have to get a 500 4x4 cause the 400's have been discontinued.
anyway I appreciate the help,
Thanks

Here's my advise: Only take comments from those who own a Polaris!
I always laugh when talking with "other brand" riders. They seem to all know that my Polaris sucks... (which it does not) but do not know anything about there own machines!!!
Go figure...

Ahhh yes.....you can always trust the guys who dont own one...NOT! Every brand has its b*tch. AS far as Polaris being junk, I HEAR it alot too, but I never SEE it. I own a 98 Scrambler 500, and im 15. Add that>>>> 15 year old + Polaris piece of junk = SH*T ON WHEELS. Well you're wrong.
My quad has always been there for me. It will out do anything on the trails and in the snow, ect. Except the track. even tho i do know a guy who races his Scrambler and does good with it. They are superior to anything on the trails man! No problems with mine. And isn't it funny how the Honda(everyone else) guys know sooo much about Polaris?

I am on my second Polaris and the only thing I have replaced was a torn CV boot, yeah they have gotten better big time. The majority of people pick on Polaris because they made some Lemons a few years back, but I have 1800 miles on my SP trouble free. Scrambler are awesome. Yamaha should take the Kodiak motor the liquid cooled 400 and stick in in the Wolverine. or maybe a 500. The Wolverine would sell allot more then. Polaris has been the most reliable machine I have ever owned, my Previous machines were a 1994 Honda 300 4x4 brand new, a 1987 Warrior also brand new, and a 1984 Yamaha DX 225 used. My Polaris machines have run better than any of those.

I'm one of those other brand owners looking at Polaris. It is true, of the guys I ride with, when someone has trouble it is usually the chained jumped off on a 400 Explorer. He does ride about the hardest of anyone though. Just last week he jumped the chain going through some brush. Are they going to protect that chain any better if they don't go to shaft drive?

You are correct in saying that the Xplorer or even the scrambler will throw a chain if they are jumped high enough. The older 3 chain system required that you have about 1 1/2" slack in the chain because of the suspension geometry. Polaris corrected this problem with concentric drive in 99.

The times I've seen the chain come off has been because of old barbwire hidden in a hedge row (that was really a mess), and last week a small stump in the brush knocked it off. They need to protect it better to keep foreign material out. Has anyone built a better shield?
