Nissan is a little late to the game, CVT's are on the way out and 6 (and up!)speed automatics are on the way in. it's all about gas mileage.

If it's all about mileage, wouldn't they use a manual tranny?

Don't forget we're still LAZY Americans so it's all about mileage and convenience. 6 speeds get better mileage than CVT's. Ford is going away from theirs and installing the new joint venture GM tranny in their newer models. From what I've read the elite manufacturers are going even higher than 6 speeds.

The funny part about the whole cvt in a car is, one company said they would never have a rubber band in there quad, yet they have one in there car. Anyone want to take a guess??

My big brother was the first to invent this system of transmitting power when he was only 7, and I just 5 years old. It was Christmas time 1963, and his first prototype was made after he tied a strong rubber band between the front and rear axles of a new toy model car. He then would roll the car backward on the carpet and let it go - it would zooom forward! To us, it was as if he invented the sling shot! He didn't advance his idea because the rubber band would not last very long and break. We would be rich now if he had only patented his idea, what today is called the CVT.
Now you know "the rest of the story."
