Default Scrambler help needed!!!

My 2000 Scrambler 400 is driving itself sometimes. I have had the throttle stick at wide open a few times now the last couple times out and it's almost clotheslined me on a volleyball net at 50-mph and ran itself into a pond. I can't figure out what's wrong with it. It's been really delayed when I let off the throttle too like maybe a half-second before it starts to slow down at all. I tried looking at the cable itself and it doesn't seem to be stuck at all anywhere and I tried spraying WD-40 down the cable but that didn't help either. Also when it's not running if you just push the throttle it comes back just fine it only seems to happen when I am riding it.

Do you happen to remember how much that cost, also how does that even happen. I guess it's just one of those weird things, huh. Oh well that's somewhere to start I guess, thanks

Wow I didn't think that a throttle cable would cost that much money. Is there anythign else that it could be though or is that just where I should start with a new cable?

Hi-

My Scrambler 400 ( a 1999) has had the throttle sticking a little lately - which I have been expecting for some time. In the 1999 model, there was a recall of the throttle control mechanism on the handlebar. It is the fairly large module where the thumb-switch is attached (it is meant to prevent the throttle from sticking if the engine is in nuetral, I think). Polaris issued a recall, as the mechanism was malfunctioning. I plan on taking mine in, and the dealer should bill Polaris for this, making it free for me. I don't know if a 1999 recall affects a 2000 model, but I'd bet that it's at least worth a phone call to find out........they don't usually redesign all of their parts each year.

The cable is a complicated design. It has one cable that turns into two. You have to lube both the handle bar end and the carb and oil injection end. It may even be necisary to open the junction of the cable and lube inside that. Make sure the inside of the throttle housiing is clean as well. One other thing that can cause this is hand grips. If you've installed new grips latetly, make sure the throttle lever is not getting caught on the grip flange. I've seen this happen and had it happen to me personally.

I had the same thing with my new grips. I knew it, but I forgot to tell my friend He had a scary moment in the woods! LOL!!!
