scrambler 4x4 problem

i have a 99 scrambler 500 4x4 when iwas riding the other day in the cold and snow, i had it in 2 wheel drive spinning around and it was popping into 4 wheel drive on its own!! this was not a pleasant feeling. im supprised nothing broke! help???

The first thing I would try would be to change the hub oil. Many have said that Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is more slippery than the Polaris oil, especially in cold weather, but I personally have had good luck just putting in fresh Polaris hub oil. Usually (so long as nothing is broken) the cause of the 4wd kicking in for no apparent reason is drag in the hub, most likely because the oil is dirty, or thick from the cold weather.
