Clutch Install Instructions
#1
Hey guys,
A while back someone posted detailed instructions on how to change the clutch spring on a Scrambler 500. I have looked over and over and now I can't seem to find them. I would greatly appreciate if they could be reposted or if someone could attach a link. I have purchased the Dalton white/blk and am anxious to install it.
Thanx

1.pull the clutch cover off you will need to take the bolts off the floorboard and fender too.
2.remove the belt by rolling it off the rear clutch
3.run a piece of wood through the clutch into the floorboard to hold the clutch
4.break the 5/8 center bolt loose
5.notice the X on the outer cluch and spider(if you cant find this make a mark on the outer and inner part of the clutch.these have to be lined up to keep the clutch in balance)
6.take out the 6 small bolts and remove the center bolt
7.replace the spring and reassemble
8.tighten center bolt to 40 ft lbs and the small ones to 18-20 ft lbs

Brad,
This awesome thanx. Should I do anything else while I have it open? What about this whole 2/2 thing? What is it from factory and what should I change it and how. Thanx again.

2-2 is a secondary clutch setting.Stock on the 500 is 1-1.Do the primary spring first and see what that does. Then we will walk you through the secondary. You need to do one thing at a time so you will know what does what.

I agreee with ftwflh when using aftermarket springs and weights that doing one change at a time allows you to get feel for what each change does. This will allow you fine tune your clutch to our own preferences.
Search my name for the detailed instructions, but note the torque of the centre bolt is 40 ft/lbs.

if you want to pull off the primary clutch there is. you need a threaded bolt/clutch puller to get this off. do not try to pull off w/ any other puller from the sides as it can be damaged real easy. secondary clutch just take out the 1/2" bolt and slide it off. changing the sec. setting changes your shift out rate and can cause loss of top end speed.

if you want to go back to stock that would easy as buying a new spring. most likely if you post what you have for spring and weights someone could tell you if its stock or maybe what it is. when you pull your belt off then pull cover off you can easily take your spring and weights off w/out pulling the clutch.
