I was wondering what the differances were between the 300 and 250 motors? Is this swap possible, and what is involved?
Thanks Drew

I thought about that a while ago. I see that the 300 and 250 both have the same rod, so I think it would work, but no one has ever tried it that I know of.

Nope, the 300, like the one that came in the old Xpress atv, was a 2 stroke.

I too am curious if this swap would work. And if it would work, are there mods avaliable for it.

It is strange to me that no one has done this yet. If it will work with minamal effort then the best thing to do would be have the 300 jug converted to a reed valve setup, like HPD is doing with the 250. I am going to call them tomarrow and find out what they know.

Please let us know what you find out.

I have not heard about the reed conversion on the 250. Do you know any more details on this?

Lurch, I just read about it the other day myself. It seems that it has been in the works for a while and it just about done. You get your jug worked on to accept a reed cage and a new piston. I think I read 32-33 HP with the stock pipe, with much improved low end.
I will get more detais tomarrow.

Lurch,

As I understand it, HPD already has the reed conversion done. I heard from some others in here that it was currently being tested. If memory serves me correctly, Rick Ritter commented on being up that way and acually riding the test machine. His comments were, "It felt good but there was nothing to really compair it to." At least that's what I think he said! I will go to double check that since my memory is a little fuzzy! I wouldn't want to warp the truth!!!!!

Lurch,

I went to check out what I said. Word is that it makes about 36 HP according to HPD. Rick did comment on riding the reed cage 250. This was back in August too, I might add. So I guess they have been testing for a while. I don't know if that is good or bad. But, Rick did say it ran pretty good.

Well, this is very interesting to me. I will have to look into this. Anyone else know anything about this reed conversion or the 300 conversion? I hope Rick Ritter see this thread and posts his thoughts. Rick, you out there?
