Default 4WD help, please!!!

Quad try putting the quad on stands, stastart it and see if there is any spin at all. The hubs are simple to take apart just line everything up on a clean rag for reassembly. Check the rollers and cage, also check the amature plate. It has 3 fingers on it maybe they are worn of. If they look ok, turn the key on, put it in AWD, turn the rear wheels and hold a screwdriver to the coil and see if it is magnetized. If not check the wires closely, if no briken wires then the coil is probably bad. Hope this helps.

Will you please follow the link below and tell me where the 'coil' is (which # part)? That would be most helpful!

http://www.big buck atvproducts.com/polaris_front_wheel_assy.htm (take the spaces out of the link, the forum said this is a bad word and would let me post it:-)

Thanks man! You're a lifesaver! I'm going to try and tear into it this weekend, so I'll give you the status report then! I really hope I get this fixed! We had a big snowstorm and plowing really sucks when you don't have the 4th wheel going! Whenver I lose traction, it always makes the wheeler turn sharp to the right:-)

Okay, I've tried putting in more fluid, but to no avail. I also inspect the wire, and it appears to be intact. Can you tell me in greater detail how to tell if the coil is being magnetized? My wife told me I can't take this to the shop because I already had a new electrict start as well as recoil starter replaced (ouch). I'm only mildly mechanically incline, I'm no engineer, but not a complete retard either. Am I capable of doing this type of repair? I would like to do something this weekend, as I'm going to try and sell my wheeler and upgrade. Thanks for the help!

PS Forgot to add that the affected wheel also has a torn boot. Will this affect things? I'm going to be replacing that as well.
Should I replace the boot also, or will that not affect the AWD for that wheel?

I don't think it will affect it. But since you have it all apart you might as well do it right. Let me know if I can help.

Well, Heinz, I just wanted to thank you for your help. My friend and I finally tore into the hub yesterdya and got the problem fixed. You're not going to believe what it was!?!? The key way that fits into the shaft and engages the clutch got sheared in half...and get this... LENGTHWISE! We tore everything apart, cleaned the hell out of it, replaced the boot, then I promptly got it stuck in a VERY soft creekbed trying out the AWD. It's been raining a ton here, so I should have known better! Fortunately though, all 4 were spinning, not just 3! Thanks again for your help!
