You are right Floodrunner, I have read that article before.
Most of the time they tell you to take it easy because they want you to get familiar with the machine.
Modern machines are assembled to such tight tolerances these days, it is ready to go.
Some of you older folks may remember the days of non-detergent oil used for break-in.
My dad bought a new 1949 GMC pickup and it had a paper/cardboard template over the speedometer to remind you not to exceed 45 MPH for the first so many miles.

The break-in arguments will go on as long as 9mm vs. .45, revolver vs. semi-auto, pump vs. semi-auto, etc.
Go with what you feel comfortable with and believe the most in. In my experience, I have NEVER had a problem with an engine that I've broken in according to the manufacturers guidelines. And I've been buying new cars/motorcycles/snowmobiles/ATV's since 1983.

9mm for distance, .45 for close quarters!
I hadn't thought about the speeds that the sleds can go. I haven't been on a sled since I was a teen. That is a great argument for staying home by the fire until the trails open up in the spring.
