Looking for new ATV
#1
Hello,
I'm looking for a new sport 4x4 ATV. I currently have a 500 Scrambler which I put a new exhaust, clutch kit and air filter to get a little more power. I have had this for about 5 years now and would like something different. I tired of all my friends new 700 or 800's being faster than me on top in. The only problem is that I don't want a big bulky ATV. I even thing the scrambler is to heavy really. Does anyone know if Polaris is going to make a 600 or 700cc Scrambler?? Or do you know of any other company that makes a ATV with a larger motor that is not as big as the sportsman? I love the polaris brand and have been riding them since 1987, but I think they are missing the boat by not making a faster scrambler. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
B

Can Am Renegade 800. Will blow the Scrambler away. It weighs about the same, but has the 800efi with 62hp and IRS. The only downfall is the price. It's MSRP is $9299, but it comes with real sweet tires and wheels with gas shocks. Renegade 800

Hi Puddy, there are very few of what I would term "sport" 4x4 atvs out there. There is the Wolverine 450 made by Yamaha that probably has a little less power, has better ground clearance than the Scrammy, and weighs 516 pounds to a Scrammy at 571. Also, the Wolverine has 3.8 gallon tank and the Scrammy has a 3.5. I really don't know how they would compare speed-wise. The other extreme is the Can-Am Renegade with an 800cc Rotax engine (extremely fast). It has high, and low ratios, 12" of ground clearance, independent rear suspension, and a 5.3 gallon tank. It is the most powerful sport/utility out there from what I have read. Also, the most expensive.

Wow,
That Renagade looks awesome! I think that would get me up the trails and past the other boys! Do you know if you can shift on the fly to 4wd with that and how reliable they are. Like I said, all I ever had was polaris. I have had really good luck with them.
Thanks,

They can be shifted on the fly from what I understand. The 4wd is not quite as good as the Polaris system. The AWD on Polaris engages as soon as there is about 1/5th spin of the rear tires. Great in the rocks and mud. The Can-Am has what they call Visco-Lok which locks progressively (slower to engage). I've read where people have had troubles with the system engaging when you get a larger tire. Haven't heard about too much more going wrong with them.

Any word on reliability with these. It sounds awesome but I've always had polaris. Any word on MPH out of these. I really have some nice low-end torque with my scrambler now that I put in a new clutch. It is always fun to ride it up on two wheels.
