New User - Clutch Question for 01' Scrambler 500 (Tried a Search Already)
Hi guys!
I think I have what is considered a simple question(s). I picked up an 01 Scrambler last winter. I have changed the belt and done all the other necessary maintanence. Now, when out in the mud, I find myself at full throttle but the tires are hardly turning. After exiting the mud the clutch still slips until you really get going (similiar to when a clutch is slipping in a car) Since I've replaced the belt, I've ruled that out so now I'm turning to rebuilding/replacing the clutch. Here are my questions:
1) Do you agree that the clutch is toast?
2) What is a good, DIRECT replacement for the stock clutch. I'm not looking for anything earth-shattering. Just need a clutch that engages properly and I will be a happy camper.
Any advise is welcome!
THANKS!
Mike

excellent... sounds like a great place to start, thanks!. If I find that these are worn and are in need of replacement, what kind of job is it (time?, any specialty tools needed?), can I replace only those buttons?, or will I end up placing everything?

need a set of snap ring pliers, turn clutch upside down, push down on helix and remove snap ring, its got some pressure so be carefull, pay attention to what holes the spring is in so you can put it back, the clutch will come apart and you will see the buttons, takes a torks bit, cant remember the size, the buttons break because people jump and hit the ground with the wheels spinning. When you re-assemble,turn helix a third of a turn to get spring tension back , align splines and push down replace snap ring. This works better if you have someone to help.

the clutch just doesn't slip, it sounds like after you hit the mud this happens, I would still check the buttons in driven and also check the bushings. also get a new seal for your pvt cover, sounds like when you hit the water it just runs in.
