Default 2001 polaris 500 4x4 scrambler rear brake problem

I have no compression on my brake lever. I bought it used and he said the brakes have not worked in about 6 months. The pads were ground down to nothing, so I replaced them. The caliper seem good, the piston reset with no problem. I just can not get any pressure out of the foot lever.

ask any gen 3 owner, that rear brake has always been a problem. they work new but do not last. do a search in the forums and youll see. most of us just learn to deal with it and learn to ride with out it.

the rear brake still werks with the hand brake. or you can go with the split brake kit from hot seat. this will allow you to control the rears with your right hand.

i have this kit and find that i rarely use it anyways.

for sure the rear brake pedal is almost useless after a short while. i never even use them on either of our machines.

There are no leaks. The caliper seems ok just lack of compression. I am guessing the master cylinder or the seals are bad. Where exactly is the problem everyone is having. Is it in the master cylinder or caliper? At the moment this is new to me, and like always eventully I will figure it out. But right now it is really frustrating

the problem is most always the rear master cylinder.

being exposed to all the dirt i think is what makes the seals go bad on it.

Bleed them with the lid off of the resevoir, it took alot to get mine working again. I step on them 4or 5 times everytime I ride and havent had any problem since.
