What do you want to spend on performance. There are tons of mods for te 250. Mine could beat piped and clutched 400's and it was all AAEN parts. The biggest performance gain would be porting and polishing. This will almost double the HP that you get with a pipe. A good pipe, clutch setup, port/polish and carb will smoke even 300ex's. The ket is the porting. The 250 is pretty restricted so no matter what pipe and carb you have it still cant breath like it should. If I were you I would get it ported and go from there. I bet just doing the porting with the mods you have now will leave the 250x in the dust. If you want a good port job then look at Rick Ritter. He specializes in Polaris 2 stroke work. Even AAEN does good work. My AAEN 250 would hang with a HPD race mod but AAEN was almost half the cost. The ultimate mod is a stroked 250 with a reed cage conversion. Thats where you can hang with the big boys. You can get 60+hp out of these motors. It all depends on how deep your pockets are.

In almost any case you have to rejet with a pipe. Expecially since the stock Polaris pipe is very restrictive. First off you dont port the head. You port the jug/cylinder. Second the only time you need to run higher octane is when you raise compression. Porting does not raise compression. The way you raise compression is by milling the head and adjusting the squish clearance. Other than a pipe, porting is the next best increase in power without going crazy with reed cages and stroker motors.

First of all you bought the torquer, not built for speed in my opinion. I personally like the green spring on my plow rig, gets the rpms up just enough. I would buy a 34 mm off a 400 polaris, it'll bolt on and in. Jet accordingly, Assuming all of the rest of your parts are in good condition like the belt and air filter. Check to see if your clutch centers are at 10", and your belt deflection is good. Also go into your secondary clutch and make sure the buttons are in good shape, and that it is set at 2-2. If this all sounds like Greek to you do a search on each item and learn. Speed costs money, and time. Lots of time. Read my signature. 250x's don't touch that old thing. Doc
