Default Anyone familiar with a Predator carb please look

I was going to put a K&N air filter on my 06 Predator today and was looking at the carb. Does this picture look right? It has a large vacuum line coming off of the left side with what looks like a pcv valve that is just open to the air. Is this supposed to be like this? Also I noticed on the bottom of the carb that the overflow line was disconnected. I see where the little line goes on the bottom of the carb. But is the big vacuum looking line supposed to be open like it is?

Not sure, but if you look inside there's some kind of filter.

Yeah, that's what it's supposed to look like. I need to find something different because I went to change the needle setting this weekend and there was sand in the top of the carb below the diaphram. My only guess is that vacuum line with that valve. It's pretty much open with a metal mesh filter, with pretty large wholes, big enough for sand to get into. Has anyone replaced this with something else?
