bad cv joint?

Default bad cv joint?

what are some of the symtems of a bad cv joint?....Im no mechanic but Ive decided since I bought this bike its time to learn....................seems that this polaris is gonna keep me busy in the garage and light in the wallet.

the only way to ruin a cv is to put a hole in the boot and get water and mud in it to wear the surfaces of the crome plating where the ball bearing run and causing them to click. you could always sell it and get a horse j/k lol.

is the one you ripped the boot on now clicking by any chance??

I went on the ride today after I covered the boot with saran wrap and duct tape I dont Know How much good it did.I dont here a clicking......is it loud or something you really have to listen for?Can getting water in it one time for a short period ruin the cv joint?

oh you'll hear it w/out any problem if it starts. it depends on if its the front outside ones which would be wearing faster because of the movement. when you get t he new boot and grease, make sure you clean it real good. if the water doesnt contaimate the grease you probably will be ok. just my own opinion.

As always thanks for the reply.I dont hear anything yet..............Im gonna change the boot before I ride again,I bought a manual on the bike that ha s a walkthrough of the job ....how hard and how long a job should I expect changing the boot.......................for a beginner w/little experiance but some mech skills?

first one a hr probaly, i can do them in about a1/2 hr now.. i get plenty of practice between be and my buddys.. i charge a case of budlight per boot.. alot cheaper than the stealer!!!!

Yea everyones told me I might as well do it myself cause ill end up having to do it again at some point......thus saving alot of money in the long run............Dealer here in Houston area gets almost 70 bucks an hr...I like the case of beer better...Ill prob. drink at least that on my first one.......any special tools needed?

no real basicn what joint is it youwill need snap ring plyers to do the rear... i use a pair of good SNAP ON needle nose plyers on the cv clamp and they work great!!
