Glacier Plow System
#1
I've been lurking on this site for a while and have gotten plenty of good information here and I thank you. Now I finally have a reason to post a message.
I live in the midwest and we recently received a lot of rain, ice, and snow over the last week. Even though we're near the end of the snow season, I don't want to lift all that heavy slush anytime in the near future, so I've decided to invest in a plow for my 2004 Sportsman 500 HO. I searched on previous posts on the Glacier Plow System and most people are very happy with this plow. I have a couple of questions that I didn't seem to find anwers for in the forums.
1) It sounds like the razor blade is highly recommended, but I'd like to know what are the advantages to this blade. It's more expensive and I read where it's heavier than the other blades, although is it worth the additional price? Does it push the snow better other blades?
2) I already have a 2500 pound Warn winch. I read where some people use a nylon strap to lift the plow rather than using the steel cable. Will I ruin the steel cable by using it to lift the blade?
I appreciate any input and thanks in advance.

I have neither and therefore have no axe to grind, but based upon some other threads in this forum, you might want to check out Moose plows before you buy. I'm leaning that way for next winter. See http://www.mooseutilities.com/produc...ategory_id=972
While this doesn't answer your questions, you requested "any input".

I HAVE AN 06 SPORTSMAN 800 W/ A WARN WINCH/GLACIER PLOW SETUP AND I LOVE IT. THIS IS MY 1ST WINTER W/ IT AND IT DOES A GOOD JOB. NO COMPARISON TO A PLOW TRUCK BUT I HAVE 2 UP HILL DRIVE WAYS (LONG ONES) AND IT WORKED WELL.......MUCH BETTER THAN MY CYCLE COUNTRY SET-UP ON MY OLD SCRAMMY. LOW RANGED HELPED TOO...... YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. ALSO, I HAVE THE REGULAR PLOW-60 INCH.

I have the Glacier, it's my first time ever plowing with an ATV. I like it and it is easy to operate. I have the Warn 2500lb winch and I plow with my 800 Stealth. I just finished this weekend with 8 inches of very wet heavy snow, in Iowa. It didn't skip a beat! I'm very impressed! However I have the wire rope cable and I've plowed 5 times this winter. The cable is kinked and I will be investing in the synthetic as soon as I get permission from the boss! Just my 2cents.
