Overheating
#1
I added antifreeze and now it is overheating. I have a 99 sportsman 500. I heard it may have air in the system. How do I get it out? I just added a little bit it was about 1/2 inch from the max line.

buckshot, if you didint drain or run this bike out of antifreeze, theres no way its going to be air bound. if the system is operating correctly and you have enough antifreeze in the coolant tank(sounds like you do) then it will feed the rad. as needed. this is why(i think anyways)that its not easy to get at the cap. check to make sure the radiator is clean back and front. alot of times overheating issues come form a dirty radiator. check it and get back to us and give us time frame on how long b4 it overheats.

Per my local Polaris shop plugged radiators is a huge problem. He told me to remove cooling fan, shroud and radiator and pressure wash completely through. He said there will be mud plugging fins on back side. I removed both radiators on my MV7's and sure enough they were both plugged approx 60%. I wash radiators with hose after every ride and did not expect this. I took pictures of dirty radiator but not out of camera yet. I also installed 1/4" spacers between radiator and shroud to try to prevent mud build up.

mu2, there isnt any way to prevent this form happening unless you stop riding in the good mud. but if your like the rest of us you wont stop lol. as long as your awre of the rad. mud issue, just keep it cleaned out and you'll have no problems. my friends and i are goig to buy/make a trail washer set up to clean the rad after our mud bogging so we can keep hammering.
