Hawkeye accessory oil cooler install

Hawkeye accessory oil cooler install
I finally got the oil cooler from Polaris. The install was pretty straight forward. Contrary to what the instructions say, you do not have to remove anything except the rightside inner splash shield.
I know some here have said it looked too flimsy, easy to damage etc... I replaced the bolts that mount the cooler to the mounting brackets with 5/16"X 3 5/8" long threaded studs. I "found" a piece of perferated metal at work, and cut it a little wider than the cooler, and 3"-4" longer. I broke the bottom over to protect the bottom of the cooler and did the same for the top. I welded it to 2 pieces of 12 guage 3/4" wide strap, and drilled the ends of the strap to fit on the studs. 4 flanged nuts attach it to the cooler, and can be removed easily.
With the posts about the Hawkeye running hot, I feel the cooler is a necessity, and the grill will deflect and rocks, sticks, etc...
BTW, you will need about a half a quart of oil to replace the small amount that leaks out when you remove the oil filter, and to fill the cooler up.
