I really dont use AWD alot in my driving and I'm having the same ole problem of it kicking in when in 2 wheel drive. Is there any way to electronically disconnect the AWD without losing everything in the speedo? I won't need it until I plow next winter.

 

The Polaris does not lock-in electronically, the electronics just enable the hub to lock, so no there is no way disable the AWD from locking in when in 2 wheel drive, your only choice is to fix it.... Usually if the hubs lock in while in 2-wd, it is due to hub damage or fluids, (maintenance is the key here.) No information was given about your bike, so really this is just guesses, but no mater what, the bike should not lock up in 2-wd, it is just not supposed to work that way.

Could he just disconnect the wires from both hubs in the front and hook them up when he plows again next year...........This will only work if they are comming on Electrically............they might be engagged by hub pressure or damage then the wires to the hubs would not matter of even be the trouble!!!...Caper...to Caper...............

 

It's an 04 sportsman 700, I assume why it is engaging when it's not supposed is because I probably have some damage to the roller cage. There is 5000 miles on the bike and i don't plan on keeping it that much longer (plan on trading) so I don't want to start ripping the diff out to repair it. The other Caper and I are thinking on the same lines....wouldn't there be wires coming out of the front diff somewhere that I can disconnect so there would be no current to make it engage the AWD

 

Do you know for sure that the hub wires are being energized ...Which is locking up the front???....Caper..

 

I'm not sure... this has been an ongoing problem the last few months and I just thought this might be a cheap and easy fix to get my 2wd back now that the snow is gone.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but, you assume roller cage damage. If so, disconnecting wires won't help.

 

Lots of snow in the Highlands...not a lick here!
