I've been considering trying to find a used Trail Boss 250 2X4. I have a couple of questions for you owners.

(1)What model is yours and what was the claimed dry weight that year?

(2) Is the '99 model the only one with concentric drive?

(3)Did all the 250's have high/low range?

(4)Has anyone installed a pipe and clutch kit? If so how does it do in high/low range?

(5) Has anyone installed the EBS system? If so, does it work effectively on the two stroke?

(6) Does anyone know where I can see some pics? I'd like to see the different color schemes.

THANKS FOR ANY REPLIES

I ride my mothers 1995 Trail Boss whenever I visit WI. I also rode it a lot before I left home, so I know quite a bit about it. However, I do not know the exact weight that was claimed that year. It was right around 500lbs though.

(2) Is the '99 model the only one with concentric drive?
The 1999 models were the first ones to have concentric drive.

(3)Did all the 250's have high/low range?
Some 250 Polaris machines had high/low, but the Trail Boss never did. It is only a high/neutral/reverse system.

(4)Has anyone installed a pipe and clutch kit? If so how does it do in high/low range?
Hers does not have a pipe on it. But it is the same engine that is in the Trail Blazer, and a pipe/clutch kit improve the performance alot.

(5) Has anyone installed the EBS system? If so, does it work effectively on the two stroke?
Can't help you here, I have not seen one on a 2 stroke yet.

(6) Does anyone know where I can see some pics? I'd like to see the different color schemes.
The colors changed almost every year with the Trail Boss. Go to this page and you can see some pics of my mothers 'Boss. It is the light blue/green and white colored quad in some of the pictures. www.homestead.com/lurch77/atvpics4.html

Hi/Lo/Reverse?????

I have to disagree with the previous post. I own an '89 TrailBoss 250 2x4. It does indeed have Hi/Lo/Neutral/Reverse.

Ok, sorry about that. All the 2x4 250 Trail Bosses that I have known have been only High/N/Reverse. I new the 4x4 Trail Boss models had low, but I never knew the 2x4 250cc models did. Ya learn something new everyday.

You know, I could have sworn that I read a review on the 2000 325 Trail Boss. They were testing it out since it had been changed over to a four stroke. I thought I distinctly remembered them mention that they did not like the fact that Polaris had done away with low range for the 2000 model Trail Boss and how it was truely missed when compaired to the '99 model.

I could be having a brain lapse though!!!!!!!

Well, I do know for a fact that at least from 1995 to the present, they did not have low range on them. Can't really say for sure when they dropped the low range. It was before 1995 though.

i had a 1999 trail boss that i traded in for my trial blazer. the consentric drive system was never put on the 250 trailbosses. i only had high neutral and reverse. i'm sure a pipe would really make it go. it has a claimed dry weight of about 450 lbs give or take 10 lbs. they are a great machine, i would get new tires tho. go for the newer years because of reliabilit issues.

Naw no brain lapse i read the same thing and they did say Polaris should have a low range especially since it was aimed for utility and trail riding, but they never said anything about taking the low range away. They just stated Polaris should add it.
