Key Replacement
#1
I just recently had my Sportsman in at the dealer for service and on the way back home the key had a big tag attached to it and the wind must have caught it and the key flew out. Luckily I still had my spare key, does anyone how I could get another key?(I tried goin to a key shop and they don't have anything small enough to cut a replica)

go back to the dealer and he can order you one or get you a blank to take to a key making place. lesson learner right there, never leave your key in the bike when transporting. your not the first to loose one.

I've picked up key blanks at my dealership. Just make sure to eyeball it so the key is the right shape and size with the grooves where they need to be. Most of the dealerships don't have a key cutting machine, so you'll have to go to a hardware store or somewhere that makes keys. The blanks are usually between $5-$10 US.

I had an issue buying keys for my Hawkeye. I told about it here at ATVConnection. The whole story is in THIS THREAD.
Even though the key for your Sportsman may not be the exact same blank as my Hawkeye, I'll bet your local Ace Hardware can solve your problem just as well as they solved mine - for A LOT less money. Details including Ace's blank # are in the thread linked above.

A Polaris dealer charged me $8 for a blank key. That is a rip off but I had to have it.

I had an issue with my ignition switch when I first brought home the 800, and before I made a warranty stink about it, I went to see my friend behind the parts counter at the dealer and he told me if I wanted another ignition switch, it was somewhere in the 20-30 dollar range and came with two new keys, one with the rubber cover and one without. So, instead of making a big thing over letting them get their paws all over my new machine, I bought the ignition switch, and took the rubber cover off my first key and made both new keys identical. I heard way too many key problems from friends when trying to replace one. Depending on how much a cut key would be, maybe getting a new ignition switch is more cost effective??

ACE Hardware came thru for me for my nephew's Honda
quad. I went to Home Depot and LOWES and they didn't have
the right size fit. When I went to a local lock smith they charged
me $5.00 for the first cut. I then went to Ace later that week, as
I wanted a few more, I think ACE charged like ~$1 for each key.
