I am new to this forum and I hope you guys can help. I have an 06' Sportsman 450 and my battery is not charging up after a day of riding and an initial full charge on the battery before. I am thinking it is the voltage regulator or stator based on reading your forum but I have a question. Is the surepower kit and the ECM the same thing? I have not checked if it has been replaced under the recall yet and I do not want to spend $149.00 on teh saurepower kit if it will be covered under the recall. Thanks in advance..

welcome to the forum. first thing to do is call a dealer and have them run the vin# to see if the recall has been done on the ecm. this is most likely the cause of your isses as you have read it's very common. i wouldnt spend any money until you fnd out for sure. just make sure the battery isn't junk for the reason of not not holding a charge. you can take it to have a load test done on it to find out. imo.

Thanks. I forgot to mention it is a 1 month old Yuasa battery I got from the Polaris dealer and fully charged using a low amp charger fro ATV's.

So that part you guys mentioned (2203398) IS the ECM that is under the recall?

Just called the dealer and it looks like it HAS NOT been replaced under the recall. I will be taking it down there as soon as I can and I will let you know if that totally fixes the issue. Thanks again guys.

So I had the ECM replaced at no cost and it runs much better as far as I can tell. I have not had a chance to take it on the trails yet, but it seems to idle much smoother and the lights don't dim on and off. I am going to assume it fixed the charging issue with the battery for now. So all is well there for the time being.

Which brings me to problem number two. Now when I turn the key all I get is a click from near the battery. There is a black box with posts mounted to the frame and the battery is connected to it direcly and from there it runs to the starter. I believe the noise it coming from that box. Is that the starter solenoid and could that be the problem?

When I was at the dealer he looked at it and said it was probably the bendex (whatever that is) and that was a common issues with Polaris ATV's and it would be about $350 to fix.

What are your guys thoughts? Thanks again....
