I should tell you that the ...00....on the display should read that because the count-down has reached 0 hours left for service.......This can be put back to lets say 50 then the count-down will begin again.......then.........Back down to 0 then your wrench icon will appear.......I did not want to miss lead you on the 00 reading........with me saying it should read 00..........wooooooooo.....Does that make any sense!!...LOL...LOL...Caper.....

Just like a EGG timer......Except eggs don't take 50 hours to cook......for most people anyway..LOL

Caper -

Yes, it makes sense, understood. BTW,
what is the mileage or hours for the
second oil change for our bikes?

Regards,

thats what he did on mine - I took it in for the first one but I will be doing the rest and I prob wont do it that way.
If a mechanic started my engine without any oil in it, he would be owning it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't take it back there for anything.

ok so when you drain your oil from the plastic tank AND from the crankcase. Then you fill the black case with oil - you have to start your "dry" engine and squeeze the oil line to pruge it back in for 30 seconds right?

Isnt that the same thing? arent you running your engine dry for 30 seconds while the oil is purging back in?

And I believe the 30 seconds I mentioned was an exxageration - I think it's more like 15 to 20 if that

The only time you need to do the purge procedure is if you disconnect the oil lines to clean the filter screen.

If you are dead set on cranking the thing to get another 1/2 cup of oil out, then leave the ignition off or pull the plug wire, and use the pull start to crank the engine over. That will cause less wear than starting the engine without oil and it will accomplish the same thing. Note that if you purge the engine by cranking it, you might have to do the prime procedure to re-prime the oil pump.

This is a lot of work just to get another 1/2 cup of oil out of the engine. I just pull the 2 drain plugs and call it good as Polaris recommends.

OK - I can buy most of what you said (about pulling the pull start) (maybe thats what he did even. but I am confused about one part. You said it alot of work to get a half a cup out yet you are pulling 2 plugs. By pulling the case plug arent you doing the same - going after that 1/2 cup? or am I missing something. I have never done one myslef - so I sure could be missing something. I would think pulling the starter over a couple of times would be easier than puling the case plug.

Not trying to agrue - just trying to understand

I don't claim to be an expert, but I believe the only way to get the oil out of the crankcase is to drain it. The 1 cup that drains out of the crankcase when you pull the plug will not be pumped out by cranking it over (I could be wrong..). My point is pull the 2 plugs and put in 2 Qts of oil. There is no re-priming or cranking things over. There is only a small amount of oil left in the oil pump (this is why no priming is required) and oil lines. That is what I do and what Polaris recommends, but you are free to do whatever you choose.

I also know some people that don't even bother draining the crankcase. They just pull the plug on the oil tank, change the filter, and fill it up.

dont get me wrong - I appreciate your thoughts. and as I first said, I wont be doing it the way my mechanic did - I will be doing it like you describe the way you do it. My mechanic makes sense but it wont be my way either.

Thanks for your input man
