Engine rebuild of my xplorer 400
#21
Ok. well i put everything back together, and tried to start the atv, and it wont start, it just turns over,
how do i know if i have a good spark? what needs replacing if i dont? i tried hold the spark plug against the engine to see a spark, but i got shocked when i held the cable.... ouch!!
any other tips to look for,
the fuel is on, the air box/filter/ the carb, new spark plug,........

thanks, i did in fact smooth up the head the best i could before i reinstalled it. well, there was no collant leaking from the head, and actually the head gasket was in very nice shape.... (but i did replace it anyways).... i am just curious as to why it wont start now.... it just turns over like it did before.... but now is has more compression though. i took the carb apart and cleaned every thing and replace the jets, and put the air mixture screw 1.5 turn out per the manual.... and the needle is on the 3rd clip just like the stock setting say....
DO you think change the needle height would make a difference? what does it do?

well i basically narrowed my starting problem to a fuel problem..... does anyone know what on the carb would be prevent the fuel from getting into the firing chamber by the spark plug? because the quad will fire when i spray some fluid in the park plug hole?
