Default 400 Scrambler Electrical Problems

Hi guys I asked this a while ago, but the conversation kinda trailed off..... My 95 scrambler is not running very well. After it warms up it has no power. It no longer has four wheel drive. The compression is good so I am mostly sure it is not rings, I believe it is electrical. Was playing in the water when it happened. The gear selection switch does not leave neutral when the trans is in high. CAN THE NUETRAL SWITCH DISENGAGE THE 4WD? Is there a controller, ecm, etc, that might be causing a lot of problems, or possibly all? Please any ideas, I am fresh out.

Do a search on removing the reverse limiter and Give that a try. It is just one or two wires to unplug under the front cowl. It sounds like it might be your problem, worked on my 99, although I didn't lose 4x4. Also make sure that your reverse override switch isn't sticking, I've seen that cause problems too. Good luck.

If the ATV thinks you are in neutral and you are realy in high gear your electrical system will disengage 4x4.

How do I get the ATV to think it is in gear? Is there an adjustment? Can I unplug something?

there is a switch in the black box that the gear shift is connected to, and on my '96 it was really corroded and its a flimsy plastic switch. the good news is that they make the replacements ones 100% better out of metal and they are a lot hardier, but they cost about $100. i tried a used old style switch and it didnt last long at all, so dont waste your money. and if your scram thinks its in neutral it wont go into 4wd, that's what the switch does. it sends a signal that it is in gear and allows the 4wd to engage.
give it a whirl, depending on your dealer, you might be able to buy one and try it and if it still doesnt work you might be able to return it. at least you can rule that out.
good luck!
