sputtering thru mud/water
hey guys
i had this problem fall and thought i corrected the problem but it is still doing it.
when i go into water up to the floor boards my bike just about dies, it spits sputters and seems to miss but it does go through thankfully, it will run bad for the next 2-3 min the clear right up. it doesnt happen when i hit a puddle at high speeds, just when i'm in a small pond or mud hole. When i look into the air box i no water inside, except for the fact that when it spits and sputters it seems to be leaving a black build up on the inside of the air box. i sprayed all the wires under the rack area last year, changed the plug, sealed the plug with dielectric grease, changed the air filter. after doing that last fall it seemed to work better but the problem is back again .
any suggestions

i found the problem, thought i'd share
i realized that the problem wasn't only when i was in deep mud or water but was happening under load, (towing a buddy)
i removed my spark plug cap from the wire and cut about a 1/4 inch off the wire and re-installed the cap making sure it was on tight. took it out for a test ride and it worked great, better than it has in a while.
gotta love the cheap easy fixes
thanks
