Default Sportsman 500 fuel mileage

After two days of riding (conservative to moderate pace, mostly trail riding, no mud) I gassed up today and calculated the mileage at:

18 mpg.

That's a range of 76 miles, not that great. But since I've never ridden more than 40 miles in a day, it really doesn't matter that much.

I've got an 04.5 SP 500 and went 38 miles and burned 2.8 gallons, most of the ride was in low range 2wd, nothing heavy duty. That figures to about 13.5 mpg.

100 miles to a tank in 2wd. 20 mpg mines a 96 500. I have a five gallon tank and when I filled it up last it was almost epmty and odometer had 99 miles from last fill up

I get about 20 mpg with the machine cruising in 2wd. In the rough stuff I figure about 15 mpg with low AWD action.

the wifes 425 magnum going through trails gets 12.5 per gallon, with my 70lb son on the back, my 400i 5spd cat with my 109lb son on the back, same trails got 18.5 per gallon, these were trails only wide enough for 1 wheeler and it was constant up and down, and through rocks

When I had my 2001 500ho I got about 25mpg going over the hatfield mccoy mountains-- my brother's 2002 500Ho did just a little better (driver variation) on the same trails.

I just checked the mileage of my '07 500 HO Mossy X2. I went 60.1 miles on 2.48 gal. for 24.23 MPG. I had a 2000 and a '05 500 HO and got similar mileage with both. The only negative on the '05 was the 4.25 gal. gas tank.
