sounds like the ignition key switch is shot because it won't shut off...

it does shut off ussually, it does this somethimes though. thats not my problem now. i'm on my 3rd battery in 1 week, this one finally lasted for about 70 miles. i noticed my reverse and neutral lights were getting dim again while i was riding, and sure enough when i shut it off and tried to start again, the battery was dead. Really annoying me now b\c it goes dead while the quad is running and not while its sitting and i have just put a new stator in.

there is also a volatage regulator/rectifier that could be messed up and not allowing the battery to be charged.

yes it is i don't have a service manual for that year but if somebody else did there maybe a way to test it but first i would make sure the connections are clean and that the ground is clean.

Default 1994 400L 2 stroke wierd problem

I finally got to fixing this thing. I tested everything I could that retains to charging the battery and that was all good, so i figured it must be a connection b\c then it started not getting power all the time when i turned the switch on. When i started looking under the cable boots, the cables that connect to the starter solenoid were rusted like you would not believe. As i figured, when i tried to take them off, it broke, so i have a new solenoid ordered to put on when i get it. I'm pretty sure that this is why it was not charging and why i only got power sometimes. The cables were too rusted to send any juice anymore, my dad just fixed one at work that had the exact same problem, cleaned the cables and it fixed it. Figured i should update, this will be my last post pertaining to this quad b\c if it fixes it its good, if it doesn't its getting sold as-is. I'm looking at a 2004 right now for 600 dollars that all it needs it a $15 shifter fork and about 25 hours labor, which is why they are selling as-is. I can do the labor myself, so i probably just got myself a cheap quad.

Thanks for all your help
