I dont think the amount of time in low hurts at all but it how you use it like STEN suggests

but one thing is, I dont think low puts more hours on

I think 10-15 mph is about where I would top out on the speed in low. It doesn't hurt the quad to ride in low all day long. If you are going to be under 10 mph you SHOULD keep it in low. It (as has been said) makes for a longer lasting belt and I believe Polaris recommends keeping it in low for cooling purposes also.

Part of the reason you have to use the low range so much is because your 26" tires have changed your gearing. Your low gear is close to what second gear was with 25" tires,

The more technical and slower the terrain, then you should use low more often, especially if you're going to need to keep it in low for a while in order to get you through the technical terrain. You can leave it in high even if it's only for a short period of time, but as most here agreed, using low in technical terrain is better for the belt etc.

Thanks for "Eduma-cating" me on the Low usage. Okay here is another while the
thread is still active. Should you put your quad in LOW gear for steep "declining
hills"? I know about uphill but this is for downhilling. A guy we went riding with
recommended doing it, I can see now with going slow during the decline, less
belt wear, protections against throttle mishaps etc. - Make sense but not sure
with alot of these bikes using "engine breaking" features (not mine of course).

Thanks for all the good info., Stendori we knew what you meant buddy!

Polaris does not run normal gears like you are describing. There is a Constant Velocity Transmisson (CVT) that feeds a seperate transmission with the high/low/reverse/park/neutral functions.

What POLARISBEAR500 is wondering is when to use LOW and when to use HIGH range. The best way to utilize high in more conditions is with a clutch kit. Something that will engage the belt harder and faster.

Pick any spring color you want to change the engagement RPM. You say the Vinson feels the same in High or low range? than whats the point? it must be loosing in another area. Are you faster on the top end and acceleration in high range?
