After hours and hours of research I still can't decide on a 2 up machine. (want a 500 cc ) I'm stuck between the max and polaris x2. I will be riding 2up about 50% of the time. I'm not looking for a speed demon, I want to trail ride two people. Most of the time at lower speeds. I like the max but have heard many complaints about the frame strength and leaky cvt cover. I've also read that polaris' reliability has gone way down, constantly need repair.
1. Is the frame as weak as I've heard about?
2. Will the polaris transmission with turf mode hold up
3. I've always repaired my own stuff (cars, atv's etc) How DIY friendly is the max?
Please help me out
Thanks in advance

Yes the Bomb frames are weak. Prepare to buy full skid plates if you want to go any farther than a dirt road. As far as Polaris reliabilty, no worries with the newer bikes, they all have issues. As for the "turf" mode, it just locks and unlocks the rear diff electronicly. It shouldn't be a problem. I have a bud with an Outlander 800 and his neighbor is a Bomb tech. They won't do ANYTHING with the bike without the Service Manual right beside them. I don't think they are really user friendy to work on. And I know from personal expiriance the Bombs do NOT like water. Don't go too deep. If you ride a Polaris you won't like the Visco-Lock front end. And with bigger than stock tires, it's worse. It seems to take forever to get it to lock in and then it locks hard.
In my oppinion, take the wife and ride BOTH and make your own decisions. You can read all you want, but you won't know for sure untill you ride them

Nix377-The bomb frames are not weak, they just dont like having their rectangular frames dropped onto sharp blunt objects. You will only need full skids for extreme rock riding. As far as water, you are good to the underside of the seat. The visco-lock is fine if you know how to use it. The mistake most people make is when their tires start to spin they let off the throttle, keep the throttle applied and the visco-lock engages progressively, and is easy to steer
