I recently purchased a used 2003 scrambler 500 4x4 for my wife. Everything was fine when I bought it but about 20 minutes of trail riding and the starter is having problems. It runs constantly, even if the ignition is off. I had to disconnect the battery to make it stop. Is this a solenoid problem? I've never had this happen on anything else I've owned.

 

to check it unhook the small wire to the solnoide and it shouldnt be powering it to give power to the starter. if by hooking it back on makes it try to start again w/out turning the key then most likely that is the problem. just a guess though.

 

I unhooked the wire and it still tries to start. The new solenoid is on order. Hopefully it'll be running by the weekend. Thanks

I got the new solenoid from an eBay auction and installed it this weekend. The eBay part was an after market version that cost half that of a Polaris one bought from a dealer. After charging the battery the Scrambler fired right up without a problem.
