i have a 2002 sportsman 500 it is a little hard to get in reverse but it will go in after awhile, any ideas?
also what oil should i use when doing a oil change?

does it grind or is the linkage just gummed up? use 0-40 fully synethic.

 

it will grind when going it forward but thats normal. when trying to get it in reverse it wont let you hard to push in. takes some time then it goes

ha 97 500 sporty i had same trouble had to adjust linkage .you have to do both uhook from shifter locking nut on top outside one is reveres threads bottom standerd. use to wrenches. to unlock rods they will break.been ther done that.a couple of turns on rod will do it. hope that helps you ......

 

me again forgot to tell you take side cover off look at cams on top of trans put in reverse see what way cam goes for reverse adjust rod to make cam go farther....
