CV curse

well it seems i must be cursed w/ problem cv's. just came back from a 43 mile ride(only 3 rd ride this year) and sure enough that sweet sound of clicking. whats worse i dont see any holes in the boots, or no clamps off. got to wait until tomorrow to find out which one it is since theres no grease showing. it almost sounds like its the one the "stealer" put together for me. oh well another couple hunderd spending.

I don't think I ever had a problem with a cv. How do you tell. I cleaned my big bikes up this morning and looked at the boots and everything was intact. What part of the cv goes south and should people check them now and again?

no caper, the 450 is fine. i have 830 miles on mine and only about 400 on hers. plus i ride in alot worse areas w/ alot of debri in the mud areas. mudhog, its the inside of the cv that either gets mud or water in there and breaks down the grease and then works on the ball bearings or the cage they ride in. once the crome plating has been taken off either one you start to here the famous clicking sound. its very important to watch your boots after every hole and clean the sticks or rocks or what have you out from the boot area oming out of bad holes. they are what usually ripps holes in them.

Thanks, Stendori. Is there anything you can do to guard them? What about the aluminum a arm guards or something like that? Seems if it would work, it would be money well spent.

yes, guards do help alot. i have the stick stoppers all the way around on mine and they cover the "A" arms in front which is a big help as well. to me well worth the money i payed for them. i run them on both my bikes.
