Am I crazy? 500 vs 700

I think the 500 camo came with EBS and worklights. You would have to upgrade to the 500 deluxe to get those included. I don't think the EBS was available on the 07 700's at all. The EBS alone is probably worth close to the $300 premium that you are paying for the camo. Polaris didn't offer EBS on the standard models for 07. The 500 and 800 came in a deluxe package that included EBS, a winch, worklights and aluminum wheels. The aluminum wheels wouldn't be a big deal to me, the worklights could easily be added, and a winch can be added pretty easily. If the camo has the EBS it would swing me towards the 500. Unless the dealer is willing to swap the clutches to add EBS, which some will do on a new model, it would cost much more than $300 to add EBS to the 700. The only way they can come out swapping clutches is if the clutches are new so that they can be sold as new. Once you take it home and put some miles on it, your clutches are used and they probably won't swap them out.
I was at the local polaris dealer around here and they were at $5389+tax for a standard 07 500 and $6189+tax for an 07 700 so your prices are as good or better.

I had an 07 500 LE, put 600 trouble free mile's on it.Two people I ride with had a 700 and an 800. All have been touble free. I rode the 800 and that was all it took for me, the power is so much fun. I purchased a Stealth 800 3 week's ago for 7100.00 out the door with a winch. I paid 6900.00 for my 500, when they were new for 07, my mistake. I guess what I am saying is that for the small diff in money, go with the power, you can slow the 800 down, but you can not make the 500 run like an 800. I didn't buy the 800 to go 75 mph, ibought cause the 0-40 mph is a blast.

to me if power is never going to be something you care about then i would go w/ the 500 because 1- its better on gas by alot, 2- the singles run cooler then the twins, 3- theres nothing you cant do w/ a 500 that you can w/ a 700 besides being faster and quicker out of the hole. w/ low range you can haul as much and they will ride pretty the same. just my opinion.

Go with the 700!
I have been doing all this investigation of bigger than my 2006 450 for a while.
What everyone here says its true, its all about your needs. BUT one thing is for
sure that happens to most (not all) of us when we "settle" for a lower end quad
it just keeps eating at you like flesh eating bacteria. At the end of the day you will
regret buying the 500 when for the same about price your couldn't had the 700.
All of this is speaking from my own personal exp. only a few weeks out now waiting
for several months of trading up my 450 for a Brand Spanking New 2008 "800"

huntr.., i use my quad in a simular way you intend to use your ride, i have a two friends running the 500, as stated above the 500's are great machines, I have a 700efi camo, love it, are you going to pull anything on the ice? trailer, shack, dogsled..? if you are i would consider the additional power the 700 has, it handles those heavier work situations much better.

Well, last night I bought the 500. I got it for 5600 OTD. My deciding factor was what HondaFinn stated about the back up recoil not being on the 700. I'm sure the power would be awesome, but for ice fishing, etc. the back up recoil would only have to be used once to make it more than worthwhile. Thank you all for your input!
