Default 500 sportsman EFI/stalls,backfires, hesitation

recently purchased '06 machine because i wanted the "reliability" of EFI
no EFI diagnostic codes come up, changed spark plug, checked connections on left handlebar override/eco switch, no air leaks around boots, clean air filter, fresh fuel, took off speedo pod and check wiring, all ok
what gives?
why is there a spot on the speedo pod thats marked EFI diagnostic, but nothing under there?
thanks ahead of time for any responses, these forums are great info

I had the same problem with my 2007 500 EFI on its first trip into the mountains. After some posts on this forum, I found out it was a result of a loose ground battery wire. I tightened the connection, and now it's working great. Not sure if that is your same problem, but it may be worth checking.

I am having the same problem with my 2006 EFI 500. It was hesitating so they replaced the oxygen sensor. That didn't work. Next they reflashed the computer. That helped with the hesitation but now it's hard to start after riding at high altitude.

I even opened the gas tank to look inside after a long climb and I had gas spew out up to 12 inches for about 5 seconds.

It only seems to happen to me at higher altitudes.

Is it possible you have to much slack/freeplay in your throtlte cable, thus causing your throttle safety switch to kick in and out. This has happened before, making a machine backfire/miss etc. Just a thought.

i just checked and the battery terminals are tight and so is the ground connection. the throttle free play is about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch, thats about the same as all my other wheelers. yesterday when i ran it , it was fine for the first 3 miles or so. then back to the same problem. most noticeable in the lower rpm range, but throughout all ranges it will show up.
any one?
i called the local polaris dealer (small time shop, mostly sleds) he said he has two in his shop with the same symptoms and he cant figure out what is wrong with them. he said that he has a diagnostic tool but it hasn't worked sinse the day he got it. any one know what this tool is? why wouldent they get another?
i really dont want to take my machine there!

Just had this problem repaired. This a manufacturers fault. The wires going to one of the sensors on the throttle body is too short. Polaris has a replacement for about $30. My dealer knew exactly what was wrong with my bike, but did not tell me I could fix it myself. Instead he charged me $100 to fix it. Everyone I know who has one of these biokes has had this problem.
