Default 05 Sportsman overheating.

Strange problem here. 2005 Sportsman 500 HO. I went on a long ride in hot conditions. (90+ degrees) My battery died when I returned home and I recharged battery. After recharge when I start my machine the fan motor runs constantly. The instrument panel flashes hot warning but the machine has been sitting for over 4 days and cannot be hot. The only way to get fan to shut off is to disconnect the battery. Any ideas about this would be greatly appreciated. The fan runs when the ignition is truned off also.

I think the older models had a problem with the ECM keeping the fan going and draining the battery. It was also a fire hazzard. Do a search and you should find more topics.

You know what, my panel flashed HOT HOT
on Saturday when I pulled her out. I know I did a
pretty good clean up job last time I took it out (over a
month ago). I turned it off, thinking maybe one of
the coils in the RAD is plugged. But the day I rode
and thereafter never overheated nor signaled HOT HOT
on the panel? I wonder if this is an ECM problem?

Yea Caper, I had only had it started for a few minutes (5-10)
just warming up. At stand still before backing it out to work
on. Wow, I hope I did't catch the ECM bug here, and this
SUX cuz I plan on trading this in this weekend on my new
800. Good thing though is that it is the same dealer that I have
3 yr warrenty with, and that was ALL profit for them as I never
used it since I had it, Sooo here ya go! - Hope they don't knock
any value you off if they were to see that msg.

Caper et al -

Any quick fixes like disconnecting the battery or some
kind of reset/calabration that I can do or something? Please advise, thanks
a bunch!
