ATV Covers
#1
All,
I had been using for both 450's, a camoflauged
ATV covers (paper thin) I bought from my local BassPro store,
about $30 each for about a year now.
It seemed to hold off water pretty good, but has
now faded with a wear rips in them. So they didn't
last for me.
What would you recommend for a nice durable cover?
I see the ones on Polaris web site ($99), are they well
made and durable?
I welcome all thoughts and suggestions, thanks!

On my sleds I always used Polaris covers. But I quickly found out that when trailering to keep the cover OFF!!!! The fabric rubbing on the plastic will scratch the plastic. I know some covers say they are made for trailering, but I haven't laid my eyes on one on the highway that isn't flapping in the wind. On the colored plastic it's not as noticable, but my nice shiny XC 500 was VERY scratched after a 2 hour drive up north with a brand new Polaris cover. Just something to keep in mind.

I used a factory under cover on me Yamaha V-max sled..............They work real well .............Also Sleds should be covered on a trailer(I use)..........Do to the road salt spray this will rust your Exhaust pipes in a few years...........I seen it happen to sleds...............But Scrammy if there in a back of a truck..........this should not be a huge problem!!!..................Caper...............

I think if you put a blanket under the cover it will keep the fabric from scratching too bad. Or an undercover like you said. Luckily I have a shed to keep the elements off my bike when it's not in use.

I've gone through about 5 of the 30 dollar covers. They last a year at best. Originally had one of the lined heavy duty covers, that was about 90 bucks when I got it. Lasted over 4 years.
The cheap ones are good enough, for the wifes quad.
Doing the math, I can tell you which one I'll buy next.

I have a custom paint job on my Harley and I have trailered it covered. I was told by some old timers that I should bungee the you know what out of the cover so there wasn't an opportunity for any flapping to occur. I took his advise and it worked well. My paint on my Harley was around $5k and everything is chrome and it was not scratched a bit. I would think this method would work on your atv as well.

I bought the Polaris cover when I recently bought a new Polaris. I haven't used it yet, just looked at it. It appears well made. I don't plan to trailer it, I've scratched too much motorcycle paint trailering covered over the years. I bought it to cover the ATV when I leave it outside on camping trips. On our hunting land the ATV is kept in a garage.
