I have a 97 425 mag 4x4 I like someone to give me a "walk thru" on how to change a belt. I have replaced belts a couple of times at the dealership when having the service work done or some other repairs but have never done it myself. I wanted to make sure that I don't do anything that would let water in and cause slippage(never have had the belt slip yet and the bike has been in plenty of mud and water).thanks for any instructions.

Not big deal, get a belt - either stock or after market. Take the 10 or so screws off the clutch housing, maybe be a tight fit removing this and reinstalling it. Then start by removing it from the top of the secondary clutch, put your quad in rev and pull backwards. This will remove the belt from the pullies and make it easy. To reinstall, put the belt on the front clutch and start it on the top of the back clutch, put it in forwards and push. This will slip the belt into place. Check your gasket around you cover, replace if signs of wear. Reinstall the screws, done. Wasn't that easy, now your a polaris repair tech.

Whenever I remove my clutch housing, I take one of
those .19 cent acid brushes, and apply a nice coating of marine grease in the groove of the clutch housing that stays on the quad.

That's a good idea, never thought of that. I'll have to do that during spring maintenance. Jan. 1 brother was riding the 400 scram for about 3 hours when I hear it backfire. Tore into it and found the piston in pieces. Have it in getting bored and honed, hopefully back at it early next week. Not even a blown engine can keep us down.
