Default exploding polaris ranger

last year I purchased a Polaris ranger. I loved the maching and drove it everywhere. I used it as a utility machine and just for the shear joy exploring the backroads. I also had the plow attachment so it was very useful during the winter too. Up until a month ago I couldn't have been more pleased with my ranger. But, one evening I heard a loud bang and went to check it out. What I found was my ranger burning up. Within 15 minutes it was totally gone. It hadn't been used for two days and thankfully wasn't parked near the house or garage. The fire dept. and the police had no idea what had happen. My insurance co. made good on their coverage in paying it off but I still have no machine and no answers.
I called Polaris and they said to go thru the dealer. I did and to make a long story short....Polaris said whatever happened wasn't their problem. They had no answers and no intention of replacing the machine. I am very concerned that the Polaris company doesn't want to know what happened to one of their machines and refuses to talk. Does anyone have any suggestions ? I would consider getting another machine but not until I have some idea of what has happened and if this is the best that Polaris can do for a customer than I will be looking somewhere else. Looking for help or suggestion as to what to do next.....blueracer

My local dealer here had a Polaris in a few weeks back (not sure on model in 300cc range).........They told me the Sure Power module was over heating and smoking..............

I had my fan come on without the key in the quad and it ran until my battery was dead!!!!...Scary stuff...In my garage!!!!...That could have over-heated the wires and caused a fire also!!!..................They did have a re-call on some modules back in 2004 era and I STILL DON"T THINK THE PROBLEM IS GONE!!!!!................I am on my third Sure Power Box and it's a 2006 model!!!!

...........Caper..................

What ranger did you have? Was is a 500, 500 EFI, or 700 EFI? I know what you mean about want to know what went wrong with the thing. Did you have any accesories wired into the battery, like lights, etc? I did see a sp 800 with acc. wired into the batt. with no fues and it started a fire up front right under the tank. But this error was due to the owner and his wiring expertise, or lack of it. I also had a friend that over filled the fuel tank and when it got hot out the excess fuel came out the vent tube. He was riding it and the fuel caught on fire as it dripped onto the hot y-pipe. Both of these happened when riders were on their machines and thier were able to put the fires out.

I had my fan running on a 2005 scrambler 500 one night when i got home. The key was in the house and the quad hadn't been cranked in 2 weeks!!! I put the key in and cranked and the water temp light came on. The engine was cold to the touch. I had to unplug the fan to get it to stop. The shop put a new power module in - no questions asked - no paper work!! That was probably the culprit in your case. I traded mine last week to a renegade. That bothered me to come home and find the thing running itself!! That could have easily started a fire and took my house with it!!
